Below are just a few examples of some of the vehicles and firms that have, over the years, provided invaluable bus services for generations of Hebrideans .  We invite you to climb aboard and take a tour through some interesting photographs of these vehicles - Tickets please!

Ford Model 'T' belonging to Donald and Neil Finlayson, 18 Skigersta, Ness, Lewis.  They bought their first bus in 1921/22 (adding a second later), and for the next 28 years operated a regular daily service to Stornoway. Mercedes Benz 814.  This is the latest acquisition to the fleet of Galson Motors, Lewis.  Shown here when bought new and entering service. Trojan.  A 1960 model operated by Donald Morrison, 5 Park Carloway, Lewis, on a school service to Shawbost School.  Photo circa late 1960s.
Ford Thames 570E registered in 1961 and operated by John Angus MacLennan, Matheson Road, Stornoway, on the Stornoway-Uig (Lewis) service.  This bus also saw service with Galson Motors, and is presently used as a store in Galson. Pair of Volvos seen here in Ullapool serving ferry passengers from Ullapool to Inverness.  Operated by William MacDonald, Back, Lewis.  This service was acquired by Scottish Citilink.  R609 CJS is in service with Hays of Huntly and D605 MVR is in Strathpeffer. Bedford VAL that served for a short time with Lewis firm John Mitchell (Stornoway) Ltd, also traded as western Lewis Coaches.  This bus also served with Morris of Swansea (we would appreciate any additional information about the vehicle).
DAF SB2300.  This was the first Western Isles Council bus leaving the bus station in Stornoway,  on2 April 199 on the start of a five year contract.  Driver is Calum MacLeod, Back, Lewis. Bedford 35 seater in the colours of Hebridean Transport, Stornoway.  This bus also served in the Shetland Isles.  The driver is JN MacDonald, Shader, Lewis. Ford R1114 owned by Lochs Motor Transport Ltd, Lewis, in 1980.  Bought from Messenger Aspatria and used mainly for tours. Mercedes 614D that was in service with Peter MacLennan, Laxay, Lochs, Lewis. Bedford OB belonging to J MacMillan, 23 Lemreway, Lochs, Lewis.  A 1947 model carrying SMT bodywork, it was bought in 1962 from British European Airways.  Ceased trading in May 1964.
Bedford YMT belonging to A MacDonald, 66 Balallan, Lochs, Lewis.  Previously owned by Harris Coaches, Tarbert, Harris. Bedford VAS that belonged to Murdo Kennedy, Orinsay, Lochs, Lewis.  One of many ex David MacBraynes Coaches to see service in the Western Isles with independent operators. Bedford 'O' Model that belonged to Callum MacLennan, Govig, Harris.  Bodywork was done by the operator.  Calum has now ceased trading and is in retirement.
Bedford VAS.  Photographed at Tarbert Pier, Harris, another ex MacBraynes vehicle.  Operated by Harris Garage Company in 1970s Bedford YMP.  This Plaxton bodied coach was operated on school runs by AA Morrison, Tarbert, Harris. Dennis Javelin bought new by Harris Coaches in 1999 and still in service
Ford Thames 400E with Kennex bodywork that belonged to Davis Cameron, Tarbert, Harris.  Seen here in the colours of MacBraynes. Bedford 'O' Model.  AST 934, is a Burlingham bodied vehicle which was bought from Highland Omnibuses Ltd.  Seen here in service with John Morrison, Northton, Harris.  It saw further service in South Lochs, Lewis, before ending its working life as a mobile shop with kenneth MacLennan, Arnol, Lewis. DAF SB22300 seen here in the colours of Buchanan Coaches of Liniclete, Benbecula.
Leyland Tiger seen here in the colours of John MacCuish, Malaclete, North Uist Bedford C5 was new to MacBraynes in 1961, fleet no. 182.  605 CYS saw service with MacLeod, Loch Skiport, South Uist.  Seen here in South Uist in January 2000.  It has since been recovered by Donald MacDonald of Howmore Coaches, South Uist. Bedford 'O'.  Another ex MacBraynes that was in service with MacAulay, Lochsboisdale, South Uist.
Renault Master owned by private hire operator A Ferguson, trading as Alda's, Lochmaddy, North Uist. DAF SB2300 Duple bodied, owned by M Bull, Sollas, North Uist. Bedford in the colours of Aitken, Lochboisdale, South Uist.
