Stornoway fish
merchant and road haulier Bill Scott and son Iain putting the final
hitch on the first load of Minch-caught herring to leave Stornoway,
Lewis, by road for a mainland
destination (Nov. 1973). The fish, landed by the east coast
vessel ‘Watchful’, were bought by R. Croan for Salvessen’s freezing plant
at Dalcross, outside Inverness, and shipped on the ferry ‘Clansman’ via
Ullapool.
ORG 537H is a
1969 Leyland Super Comet with an ergomatic cab and carries the name
‘Wild Rover’ |

Austin K4 model long wheelbase new in 1945
at a cost of £500. His son, John, is shown here standing on the
back of the lorry. JS7081 worked 8 years for STC (Standard
Telephone Cables), until 1960 when it was sold to 16 Upper Shader, Barvas, Lewis,
and broken up. |

This 1978 Leyland Reiver was the last lorry
that was bought new by John MacIver & Sons (known locally as ‘Peel’).
Seen here at Murray MacLeod’s house in Ness, Lewis, with a load of peat enroute to Back.
The six-wheel vehicle (shown) was later cut into a four-wheeler. |

Shawbost, Lewis. The vehicle
was bought new by Kenneth MacLeod and laid up in 1999. |

Malcolm MacIver & Son, Carloway, Lewis
(F302 HYC). The company is today run by Murdo MacIver (Dodo) |
Angus MacDonald, Lewis,
with his Leyland Freighter (ex John
Fyfe). Angus started mainly with diggers in November 1979 and currently
has contracts with BT, Hydro, British Gas and the local authority. |
